About William

William McRostie is an experienced arts worker and creative practitioner with a focus on ambitious projects, inclusivity, and innovative funding programmes. In his work with practitioners of all abilities and skill levels, he has developed a deep understanding of the arts sector in Victoria and nationally, and an unrelenting curiosity about the ways in which artistic practice can be fostered, supported, and extended.

Working in South Australia, William was selected to train in the art of audio description, a creative access service that works across art-forms and venues to benefit people are blind or have low vision. When he moved to Victoria, he soon learned that the practice is incredibly limited, and has only been delivered under a volunteer-driven charitable model. So, in 2017, he founded Description Victoria as a small business with a mission to create accessible and inclusive arts experiences for people who are blind or have low vision. Piloted in late 2016, Description Victoria are now service providers to a broad range of clients like Malthouse Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne, Arts House and more.
