Sophie Benassi

About Sophie

Sophie Benassi is a theatre director. She has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Acting for Stage and Screen at Charles Sturt University and has a Diploma of Education specialising in Drama at the University of Canberra. Sophie has trained with 16th Street Actors Studio in workshops with Larry Moss, Ivana Chubbuck and Ellen Burstyn as an actor and director. Sophie has a passion for verbatim and political theatre.

While at NIDA Sophie has directed a music video for The Regime’s Deuzy Vibe, in collaboration with Rage and triple j Unearthed, and worked as Assistant Director to Kate Gaul on NIDA’s production of Orlando. Other directing credits include Revolutionary Road in collaboration with the Actors Centre Australia (ACA).

Sophie collaborated with MFA (Writing for Performance) student Sophie Davis on a new work for her graduating production and she was appointed Co-Artistic Director of Mockingbird Acting Studio and Theatre Company in 2021.
