About Somaya

Somaya Langley has a background in the arts, culture, festivals, broadcast, and ICT, in particular presenting, promoting, and preserving digital content. She has worked in Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom, for organisations including the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Cambridge University, Electrofringe Festival, and the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia.

She is passionate about the electronic arts and culture, and digital environment. Her (somewhat lapsed) professional arts practice has a foundation in media and sound art, including developing live wearable interactive audiovisual performances. In recent years she has been reorienting towards broader applications of technological creativity, exploring intersections with human rights organisations.

Previously living, learning, and working on Gadigal land, she is now based in London, UK. Somaya is the inaugural Digital Preservation Manager at the Science Museum Group, UK, Vice-Chair of the Digital Preservation Coalition’s Museums and Galleries Working Group, and Co-Chair of the International Council on Archives’ Expert Group on Managing Physical and Digital Records.
