About Grace
Grace Malouf has undergraduate degrees in Economics and Laws (Honours) from the University of Queensland and did exchange stints at Sciences Po Paris, Korea University and Trinity College Dublin. After working as an Intelligence Analyst in competition regulation for a couple of years, Grace realised she wanted to retire.
When that wasn’t a possibility, she decided it could be fun to spend her days writing stories featuring her many different personalities so that she could eventually watch people pretending to be her. In all her work, Grace draws on her diverse experiences to explore personhood and the interaction of social contract theory with contemporary political correctness through familial focused stories in a darkly comedic tone.
So far she’s written and co-directed “Extremely Irrevocably Dead”, a post-apocalyptic pilot about a brother and sister who survive the end of the world, “Coterie Cabaret” about Venus, Goddess of Love and Sex, who is banished to Brisbane from Mount Olympus after being caught cheating on her husband, which following its independent season headlined Anywhere Festival in 2021, and two short plays- well named “First Date” about a first date Grace went on, and “The Angels” juxtaposing her experience in the public service and private sector, which were featured in Short&Sweet Festival.
While at NIDA, Grace has been working on a feature length film about a man who infiltrates the lives of three people who have leases on plots at the otherwise full cemetery his dying wife believes she will be buried at in order to keep them alive past their lease expiry so his wife can get a plot and a play about a progressive general surgeon who must face the ultimate test of her beliefs when her son seeks treatment for his body integrity identity disorder through amputation of his leg.
