About Catherine

Personal statement:

I live and work on the lands of the Kulin Nation.

Books and stories are my first love. I’m an emerging writer, qualified book editor, award-winning freelance book publisher and regular writers’ festival goer. I’ve also volunteered at state-based writers’ centres and worked in educational book publishing. For my masters research project, I wrote an original, feminist, Australian fairy tale.

I’m also passionate about visual arts, history and heritage, as a hobby photographer who’s exhibited in two states and enjoyed museum exhibitions across Australia and while travelling in the UK, Europe, Turkey, and North America. Between 2015 and 2021, this combined with my literary love as I worked in the GLAM (gallery, library, archives and museums) sector in regional communities in three states.

My other lifelong love is for the performing arts. I’ve performed as an amateur flautist in community bands in two states and one territory, worked at Australia’s largest regional theatre and am currently working with an orchestral organisation in Naarm/Melbourne. For my International Placement, I explored the inclusion, diversity, accessibility and equity (IDEA) initiatives Canadian orchestras are doing with equity-seeking communities as part of evolving the artform.
