About Caine
Caine Chennatt is an arts programmer, curator, collections manager, and is currently Director, Curatorial and Cultural Collections at the University of Tasmania, where he bridges the organisation’s cultural collections, art galleries, museums, and public art commissions with audiences through a lens of cultural humility.
His curatorial work currently explores plural cultural identities, expanded ways of knowing, and hope (recent exhibitions include Interfacial Intimacies, Plimsoll Gallery nipaluna/Hobart for Dark Mofo 2023). He has previously produced public programs, access and inclusion initiatives, digital engagement, and arts workshops for Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, Mowanjum Arts and Cultural Centre, the Berndt Museum, and The School of Life; and was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to research inclusion initiatives within galleries.
Caine is currently acting Chair of the Council of Australian University Museums and Collections (CAUMAC) and recently joined the board of Second Echo Ensemble. He is an alumnus of Australia Council’s Future Arts Leaders (2019) and International Curator’s Program (2023). Outside the cultural sector, Caine is an accredited practising conflict mediator (NMAS) and carries this outlook through all arts and cultural projects.
