NIDA is very happy to announce Sally Withnell, second year Bachelor of Dramatic Art (Production), as the recipient of the 2014 Peter Baynes Memorial Scholarship.
NIDA is very happy to announce Sally Withnell, second year Bachelor of Dramatic Art (Production), as the recipient of the 2014 Peter Baynes Memorial Scholarship.

Established in 2008, this scholarship celebrates Peter Baynes’ love of theatre as well as his passion for New York City by providing an annual grant for a NIDA Production student to pursue secondment opportunities in New York.

Passionate about working in the musical theatre industry, Sally is very excited to have been chosen for this great honour.

“I am thrilled to have been offered the opportunity to travel to Broadway. The musical theatre industry in New York City is an extraordinarily innovative and exciting world to be a part of. I hope to be able to learn from leaders in the field and take my experiences in America and apply them to my work in Australia,” commented Sally.

Peter Baynes was NIDA’s Technical Manager and a highly regarded theatre practitioner who, after working for a diverse range of companies including Opera Australia, Really Useful Company Asia Pacific and the Queensland Theatre Company, brought his wealth of theatre knowledge and experience to NIDA in 2004.

To commemorate Peter’s technical achievements and his love of theatre, NIDA, in collaboration with his wife Kari Baynes, created the Peter Baynes Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship is open to all second year Production students and is awarded based on the quality of a written application and interview process conducted by Kari Baynes and a selection panel.

“I am continually astounded by the high quality of the applications that we receive and this year was no different,” commented Kari Baynes.

NIDA congratulates everyone who participated and wishes Sally all the best on this exciting adventure!
