Strange creatures: NIDA make-up students create wild looks in final showcase

NIDA’s make-up students transformed Ettinghausens dancers into peculiar beings for their final showcase.

In addition to the full range of beauty looks and make-up design, NIDA’s make-up students train in styling wigs, creating prosthetics and special effects for film and stage.

For their final showcase, Transformation, the make-up students collaborated with dance students from Ettinghausens’ full-time professional stream to create characters through make-up and special effects.

Cirque du Soleil-inspired characters

Cirque du Soleil-inspired characters created by Isabelle Coote and Abi Smith, performed by Bejae Ingate and Courtney Robinson.

The dancers fully inhabited the strange identities the make-up students designed and created for them, and brought them to life through movement choreographed by director Natasha Crane.

Make-up supervisors Sandra Wograndl and Cathy Malik guided the students to execute their character looks, some inspired by tradition and others subverting it.

The dancers became unrecognisable as they were transformed into beings from a weirder world, who taunted the audience in a misty, carefully lit environment like that of a carnival haunted house.

Cats musical-inspired characters

Characters inspired by the musical Cats, created by Holly Ball, Monique Muskens and Rebecca Smith, performed by Catherine Cvetko, Melody Lewis and Sophia Calarco.

Characters inspired by pop art and comic books

Characters inspired by pop art – Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman and Poison Ivy; created by Maddison Pepping, Briohny Walker and Rebecca Crismale, performed by Corie Janssen, Alessia Crissani and Issabella Addouj.

This immersive atmosphere was thanks to NIDA’s Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services students, using lighting, sound and video design under the guidance of Production Manager, Simeon Lewis.NIDA Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services students
