NIDA launches make-up training

NIDA has launched the brand-new Diploma of Specialist Make-up Services as part of its vocational education program for 2016.

NIDA has launched the brand-new
Diploma of Specialist Make-up Services as part of its vocational education program for 2016.

Running from April to December, this practical and intensive training provides the perfect stepping stone into the wonderful world of make-up, hair and special effects for theatre, film and television. The course equips students with the skills and knowledge to design and apply make-up, style hair and hair pieces and create wigs.

Head of Vocational Studies at NIDA, Mark Gaal is thrilled to see this course up and running for 2016.

“Hair and make-up is such an integral part of any production, be it live events, theatre, television or film, so it’s exciting and very fitting to be able to offer this kind of training at NIDA,” commented Mark.

“A huge benefit of studying at NIDA is the cross-discipline collaboration. We are now adding Specialist Make-up students to the already established mix of acting, costume, design, directing, production, properties and writing students, so I’m looking forward to what incredible collaborations evolve next year.

“I’m also excited to have the expertise of award-winning Louise Fitzgerald on board. She will be the core course tutor, bringing her extensive industry knowledge and experience of over 28 years as a make-up and hair designer for theatre, film and television as well as her work in the special effects field.”

Having led an extraordinary career including touring with the renowned Cirque du Soleil, Louise was more than happy to take on a teaching role for this course.

“When NIDA approached me for the position, I jumped at the opportunity as I’m looking forward to working with and guiding the next generation of industry leaders,” commented Louise.

“This course will not only teach the necessary technical skills, it will provide unique professional knowledge and access to help students break into the industry.”
