NIDA graduate tipped for ARIA award

NIDA graduate Marko Jovanovic is the creative force behind acclaimed Australian band, John Butler Trio’s latest nomination in the 2014 ARIA awards.

NIDA graduate Marko Jovanovic is the creative force behind acclaimed Australian band, John Butler Trio’s latest nomination in the 2014 ARIA awards.

Marko’s excellent work as producer of the music video for John Butler Trio’s hit song Only One has been nominated for Best Video.

The tongue-in-cheek video follows the journey of a young couple as they fight to survive the zombie apocalypse.

The whole team is extremely proud of the video and what has been produced including band front-man, John Butler.

“The idea of a Zombie love story came to me a while ago. I wanted the song and video almost to be juxtaposed but still somehow have an element of love… and humour. I think we made a seriously cool and funny video. I love it. Even if I do look dead!” commented John Butler on the band’s website.

Graduating from NIDA’s Acting course in 2009, Marko went on to have a successful stage career, performing with Griffin Theatre and Bell Shakespeare Company. In 2011, Marko relocated to Western Australia where he began to focus his efforts on his love of producing.

“My interest in producing has stemmed from a passion for storytelling and wanting more control over how stories are told. Music videos have been the perfect platform to cut my teeth on as they hold the challenge of creating a rich narrative within the time constraints of a song,” commented Marko.

“I had so much fun making this video and like any production, it was a huge team effort. As the producer, I worked hard to set up clear communication channels between all divisions including the director and the band. With a twelve day turnaround, everyone worked tirelessly to get the video off the ground, especially the make-up and wardrobe team who were responsible for creating the incredible zombies! Everyone went above and beyond to make this video happen and it was truly a pleasure to work on.”
