1. Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am 20 years old, from Melbourne and originally from London. My family moved to Australia when I was six and I began singing and dancing classes immediately at The Johnny Young Talent School and a year later I started Musical Theatre training with The Young Australian Broadway Chorus for 12 years! Amongst a bit of television work and singing, musical theatre has always been my passion.
2. Why did you decide to apply to NIDA?
Initially, the prestige and wonderment surrounding NIDA led me to look into courses here. And then I read up on the new Diploma of Musical Theatre at NIDA and it seemed like a really suitable course for me at this time in my life. I was looking for intensive training with a strong focus on acting that could possibly lead to a few different options at the end of the course.
3. How are you finding the Diploma of Musical Theatre so far?
After seven weeks of the course, I am astounded at how much we’ve fit in already! I love walking into class everyday with an expectation of growth. I’m already noticing improvements and changes in my work, which is exciting, and it is an absolute pleasure to be taught by such an array of incredible tutors with so much knowledge and experience to share.
4. Highlight of the year so far?
One of the highlights so far for me would be experiencing Philip Quast as a tutor! He did some incredible work with us breaking-down Shakespeare, giving us the techniques to make the words tangible and real, which is thrilling because I can see it feeding into other aspects of my work now and I know I will be using these techniques forever.
5. What are you most looking forward to in the course?
I look forward to every day of this course, but mostly I am looking forward to the end of year showcase! I’m really excited to be able to display what I’ve learned and also perform on stage with my incredibly talented peers.
